Adoptee research - new paper and callout for research participants

Hello! A couple of brief updates!

AIFS - Understanding the experiences of parents who were adopted as children

Our good friend (Korean adoptee) and respected academic, Dr Jessica Walton, has co-authored a new paper for the Australian Institute of Family Studies:

"This resource summarises the evidence about the experiences of parents who were adopted as children (i.e. adult adoptees). It discusses their experiences of parenthood and the impacts of parenthood on their identity, wellbeing and relationships with others. It outlines the broader complexities of family separation in adoption, the impact of adoption on relationship attachment and the intersection between adoption and parenthood."

Request for research participants - Korean adoptees in Australia

Excitingly, one of our committee members, Samara Kim, is about to commence her research regarding lived experiences of Korean adoptees in Australia.

Please see further details below:

🎉 Call out to Australian Korean adoptees keen to share their voice and stories‼️

Hi, I’m Samara (also known as Kim Soo Im 김수임) — I'm an Australian Korean adoptee and PhD Candidate at Flinders University.

I’m inviting Korean adoptees in Australia to take part in an adoptee-led and centred research project that amplifies our voices, needs, and interests from a lived experience perspective in Australian adoption research, practice, and policy.

❤️‍🔥 This research will also be among the first studies to consider the views of Korean adoptees in light of recent investigations into South Korea’s adoption program — creating space for you to share what feels most meaningful to say and what you feel is missing or needed in this moment.

If you’d like to be involved or would like more information, I’d love to hear from you 💌

All enquiries will be treated with care and confidentiality 🙏
